Are you feeling a bit claustrophobic? Are you looking a little pale? Is your case of spring fever slipping into a full-blown case of summertime blues? We know the cure: Boater’s Skip Day.
Sometimes the best medicine is available without prescription. So, in an effort to lift the spirits of everyone in Jacksonville who might be suffering from the slightest case of cabin-fever, we are declaring a full day of attitude-adjusting, aqua-therapy on Friday, June 10.
“What is the point of being surrounded by beautiful waterways if you don’t take advantage of it?” says Lisa Almeida, better known as The Boatanista. “We are planning Boater’s Skip Day this Friday as a time to relax and have fun on the water as a kickoff to this weekend’s Jacksonville River Rally events.”
Boater’s Skip Day is being promoted – or is it being prescribed? – by Freedom Boat Club, Jacksonville River Rally, and The Jacksonville Marine Association. Almeida is CEO of the FBC locations in Jacksonville and St. Augustine.
On Friday at 10 a.m., Freedom Boat Club will be leading boaters from Julington Creek Marina to Bayard Point, where they will enjoy lunch and entertainment on the river, with live music from Big Jeff show.
“Captain Jeff will be joined by some of our FBC members on our pontoon boat as he leads the way to Bayard Point for a day of fun,” said Almeida. “We will all raft up and have lunch as we celebrate Boater’s Skip Day. We want to invite anyone who loves to boat, or who needs some fresh air and sunshine, to join us.”
In an effort to promote aqua-therapy, food will be served on special tables set up on a sandbar.
The Jacksonville River Rally Poker Run will be held on Saturday, followed by an evening of fun and entertainment.
